Katharina Janus, a professor of healthcare management in Germany and at Columbia University New York, is the founder and managing director of the Center for Healthcare Management and the president and CEO of the consulting network ENJOY STRATEGY. She has twenty years of global healthcare management experience in science and corporate practice. Starting her career in managed care at one of the largest hospital chains in the United States, she has learned about challenges on the shop floor before turning to academia where she continued to pursue applied research. She then left her tenured position in Germany to lead the Center for Healthcare Management and reinvent research and education that is in constant dialogue with practice. Her global consulting network ENJOY STRATEGY supports many of the Center’s projects on the implementation side. As a keynote speaker and moderator, she frequently contributes her global domain expertise and indepth knowledge of healthcare markets and trends. In this respect, she has helped major multinational companies with market access strategy and business development to facilitate on-site implementation in various cultural environments. Dr. Janus was a 2006-07 Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy at The Commonwealth Fund, a Rockefeller Foundation academic fellow in 2012 and a Brocher Foundation resident in 2014. She was also one of the youngest tenured professors and female board members of a DAX company appointed in Germany. Dr. Janus earned her Master’s Degree in Business Administration at the Universities of Hamburg and the Université Panthéon-Sorbonne Paris in 2000. She holds a PhD in Business and Social Sciences from Helmut-Schmidt-University in Hamburg (2003) and the German qualification as a full professor (2009). She has been a ballet dancer before she started her career in healthcare management which inspired her to create sculptures whenever her busy schedule permits. Her creative approaches to strategy consulting frequently are influenced by her artistic upbringing and education.

Yann Bisiou is an associate-professor of Penal Law at Paul Valéry Montpellier 3 University (France) and a former Junior Program Officer in the United Nations Drug Control Program. He had been a member of the scientific council of EMCDDA – European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addition (2002-2005) and of French ODCCP (MILDT – 2000-2007), before being the vice-president of the Board of Paul Valery University from 2008 to 2016. He also acts as an expert for various government authorities as European Commission (1996, 1999, 2000), Switzerland Ministry of Justice (2000-2001), the Independent Inquiry on the UK’s Misuse of Drug Act (1999-2000), the French Parliament (2013, 2014, 2018). Has been working on Drug Laws and Drug Policy since 1989, he is the co-author of the main book on Drug Control in France, « Le Droit de la Drogue » (Dalloz, 2000), and has authored more than 40 book chapters and articles in journals and presse on Drug Control and new educations technologies. As a professor, he teaches in many countries like Georgia, Gabon or China in a joint-program in cooperation with East China Normal University in Shanghai or Renmin University of China. Yann Bisiou is an Officer of the Order of Academic Palms by the French Government for distinguished services.

Béchir Bouderbala is a public affairs consultant. After studying public law at the Panthéon-Sorbonne University, he became in 2017 Head of Advocacy for the NORML branch in France. He is also member of the university seminar “Transversal approach to drugs” at the EHESS and CNAM teaching assistant on drugs regulatory models. He works daily on the issue of the medical use of cannabis, implements the various campaigns, meets the MPs and administrations to change laws. These last two years, he built a wide network of associations, companies and intellectuals to give a citizen voice in the debate on drug policy in France. Otherwise, Béchir created in 2015 a think tank, Ceryx, dedicated to social issues and now gathering a hundred contributors. As head of this think tank, he organized more than 50 conferences and seminars on human rights, diplomacy and international issues.

Heather Brown is passionate about changing care paradigms and challenging the notion of how the health care system supports patients to live healthy and fully functional lives.  She uses her extensive expertise over 15+ years in performance improvement, infrastructure design, analysis, and problem solving to make significant change in the areas of hospital and home-based care models, from the lens of operations, quality and patient safety. Trained as a physical therapist, she incorporates a focus on functional status as an outcome measure for patients and the system as a whole.  During her career, she has worked at multiple healthcare organizations around the San Francisco Bay Area in clinical, research and operations roles. This experience allows her to bring a holistic view to any change in provision of care, based on her first-hand knowledge of the perspective of the clinician as well as the operations team.  She currently serves as the Regional Director of Hospital Operations and Performance with The Permanente Medical Group in Oakland, California, where she has held a variety of roles over the last 7 years. She received her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and her MBA in Finance & Strategy from the University of California Davis.

FRANCESCA COLOMBO, M.Sc., is Head of the Health Division at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. She is responsible for work on health, which aims at providing internationally comparable data on health systems and applying economic analysis to health policies, advising policy makers, stakeholders and citizens on how to respond to demands for more and better health care and make health systems more people centred. Major activities of the OECD Health Division cover trends in health spending; measuring of health care outcomes, activities and inputs; health care quality policies; assessing health system efficiency and value for money; long-term care systems and ageing; the economics of public health; pharmaceutical policies, new technologies and  big data in health; and health workforce. Major publications resulting from the work of the Division she manages includes Health at a Glance, Tackling Wasteful Spending on Health, New Health Technologies, Tackling Harmful Alcohol Use, Making Mental Health Count, Health Data Governance, and Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes: Policies for Better Health and Quality of Care. Mrs Colombo has over 20 years of experience leading international activities on health and health systems. She has led projects covering a wide range of topics, including quality of health care policies, health financing and the impact of private health insurance on health systems, health workforce and the international migration of doctors and nurses. She has been responsible for the OECD Asian Social and Health activities with non-member countries, working with the OECD/Korea Policy Centre. She is a leading international expert on health and care issues for elderly populations and also held responsibilities for co-ordinating OECD involvement at high-level meetings such as on diabetes, dementia and health workforce. Mrs Colombo joined the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in 1999. Prior to that, she was seconded to the Ministry of Health and Labour of Guyana as acting head of the Planning Unit, where she was instrumental to the implementation of financing and governance reforms of the health system, and also worked at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Over her career, she has travelled extensively in Europe, South America and Asia, advising governments on health system policies and reforms. She holds a M.Sc. in development studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and B.Sc. in economics and management from Bocconi University.

Ralf Däinghaus

Founder and CEO of medAspis GmbH

Ralf Däinghaus, born 1967, is the founder and CEO of medAspis GmbH and an expert regarding the implementation of the Falsified Medicines Directive. Ralf has spent a large part of his career in the pharmaceutical supply chain, including the creation of DocMorris in 1999, when he was the CEO of the company for 10 years. At the time, DocMorris was a pioneer in pharmaceutical mail order, today DocMorris is Europe’s largest mail order pharmacy.
The resistance from the established suppliers was great. The company was taken to the European Court of Justice twice, which decided that DocMorris has the right to follow its path. While at DocMorris, Ralf had won the German founder price and received some important economics awards.
Today, Ralf innovates and improves the logistic pitfalls created by the implementation of the FMD. His extensive experience in the pharma logistics industry was the base of creation and designing medAspis system. As a result, medAspis does not offer a technical connection like so many others, but a complete platform including optimal integration into existing processes and documentation which can be attached to reports for the competent authorities.
Ralf was and is an entrepreneur by description. After completing his studies in IT, he started his career as an entrepreneur. He is successful with his own companies and has never been employed for a longer period of time.

Angelo Moesslang is Chief Executive Officer of InGeneron, a privately held US-based clinical stage cell therapy company. The Company has developed and is working to market a medical device platform that enables novel, evidence-based treatments designed to heal certain chronic musculoskeletal conditions using a patient’s own regenerative cells. InGeneron has introduced its system into the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s regulatory process to ensure it is safe and effective. Successfully attaining FDA approval will allow InGeneron to market the regenerative cell therapy for specific indications in the United States.

Angelo has more than 20 years of executive-level leadership experience in the medical device and health care industry in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the U.S.. Prior to joining InGeneron, he served as chief financial officer of Fresenius Medical Care North America Holdings, the U.S.-based division of Fresenius Medical Care, a global medical device and health care services group. As member of the executive team he helped create and manage a multi-billion dollar portfolio of different medical device, pharma and healthcare service businesses and business models. Earlier roles in Angelo’s career include CFO for Fresenius Medical Care Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Latin America; vice president business development for Asia Pacific; and head of investor relations for Fresenius Medical Care.

Stephen Parodi

Associate Executive Director, The Permanente Medical Group

Stephen Parodi, MD serves an associate executive director for The Permanente Medical Group located in Northern California that serves over 4 million patients and members.  He has responsibility for hospital operations, inpatient quality, patient safety, care of complex and special needs populations, skilled nursing facilities, home health, hospice, and external communications.  He also serves as executive vice president for The Permanente Federation, the organization which represents 22,000 physicians who practice at Kaiser Permanente throughout the US.  His duties include external affairs, government relations, communications, and brand.  He also serves as a liaison for Kaiser Permanente’s engagement in local and international healthcare delivery initiatives.

Dr. Parodi received his medical degree from Georgetown University, completed his internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and infectious disease fellowship at the UCLA Affiliated Program in Infectious Disease.  He practices as an infectious disease physician and has a special interest in population and community health as well as applied epidemiology.  He actively collaborates with the California Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control on public health matters. 

He has led clinical projects related to the reduction of healthcare acquired infections, antimicrobial stewardship, reduction in dialysis related infections, and regional outbreak responses.  His work in hospital operations has included programs such as enhanced recovery after surgery, patient blood management, observation medicine, and bedside multidisciplinary rounding.  Special interests now include addressing the social determinants of health to scale and transforming outpatient acute home care.

Regional Medical Director, Hospital Operations at The Permanente Medical Group

Dr. Vivian Reyes serves as the Regional Medical Director of Hospital Operations for The Permanente Medical Group, which is the exclusive medical group for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. In this role she has led several initiatives, including Enhance Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), the Regional TeleStroke Program Design and Implementation, a predictive model to identify inpatient deterioration – Advance Alert Monitor (AAM), and the Regional Delirium Prevention and Management Program.  She currently co-leads the Acute Hospital at Home Program as well as Enhanced Recovery Medical, which applied ERAS principles to non-surgical hospital patients. Also in this role, Dr. Reyes directs the Regional Emergency Management Program and partners with the physician chiefs groups of Emergency Medicine, Hospital-Based Medicine, and Resource Management to set regional strategy and growth of these respective specialties. Prior to serving as a regional medical director, she practiced disaster medicine and led the medical response for Kaiser Permanente teams to multiple international disasters, including the 2013 Philippines Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda and the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. Closer to home she led the Kaiser Permanente Northern California response during the 2014 Ebola Outbreak, successfully implementing workflows across 21 emergency departments to identify potential Ebola patients and opening two CDC-recognized Ebola Treatment Centers in just a few weeks. Dr. Reyes is board certified in Emergency Medicine and has continued to practice in the Kaiser Permanente Emergency Department in San Francisco since 2003.  She currently serves as the President-Elect for the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).  She completed an executive leadership program at the Harvard Business School in 2017, obtained her medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Highland Hospital in Oakland. In her spare time she enjoys traveling to less traveled parts of the world.

Thomas Rundall is Henry J. Kaiser Professor of Organized Health Systems, Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley. Rundall received his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from Stanford University. He taught for four years in the Sloan Program in Health Services Administration at Cornell University before joining the faculty of the School of Public Health at U.C. Berkeley in 1980. Professor Rundall has completed research and published across a broad array of topics, including integration of health care services, hospital-physician relationships, health information technology, evidence-based management, and quality improvement. From 2004 – 2014 Professor Rundall served on the board of directors of On Lok Senior Health Services, a program of all-inclusive care for the elderly. From 2009 – 2019 Rundall served on the board of directors, and as board chair from 2014 -2015, of John Muir Health, an integrated health care delivery system. Currently Professor Rundall is co-director of the Ceneter for Lean Engagement and Research in Healthcare (CLEAR) at the University of California, Berkeley.

Jean-Louis Schilansky, a French National, is a civil mining engineer with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He spent most of his career in the Oil Industry in the International Downstream sector first with Mobil and then with Exxon Mobil. He held several senior positions including Vice-President and President of Mobil Europe until the merger with Exxon. After returning to France, he joined UFIP the French National Oil Industry Association, first as Executive Director and then as President. In parallel he became a Vice President of Medef, the French Business Confederation where he chaired its Energy Committee. He also served as chairman of the Economic Activities section of the French Social, Economic and Environmental National Council. Currently he is President of Medef Paris/ Grand Paris. Mark Ware is currently the Chief Medical Officer of Canopy Growth Corporation. He has taken a leave of absence as Associate Professor in Family Medicine and Anesthesia at McGill University from July 2018 to work in this capacity. He previously served as Director of Clinical Research of the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit at the McGill University Health Centre for over 10 years, and was the Executive Director of the non-profit Canadian Consortium for the Investigation of Cannabinoids since 2007. He has served as co-director of the FRQS-supported Quebec Pain Research Network, and sat on the executive management team of the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain at McGill University. His research has been funded and supported by CIHR, FRQS, private foundations and pharmaceutical companies. He has published over 100 papers on cannabis and pain research in academic journals, has written 6 book chapters, and has given hundreds of lectures to health professionals and the public on cannabis over the last 20 years. He has served as a consultant to several large corporate and academic research programs internationally. He has advised the Canadian federal government on cannabis policy since 2001, and 2016, he served as the vice chair of the Federal Task Force on the Legalization and Regulation of Cannabis in Canada.
